Dressed in skirts adorned with coins and tassels, male belly dancers are making a comeback, swaying their hips and rippling their abs to hypnotic Turkish beats. Known as “zennes,” these performers were once a mainstay at the courts of Ottoman sultans, but have been out of the limelight for decades. Their resurgence coincides with a broader revival of Ottoman-era culture.
